TNA IMPACT Wrestling 5/31/16…

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING IS AVAILABLE EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT ON POP TV & FIGHT NETWORK 9/8c.

MIKE BENNETT & MARIA KICK OFF IMPACT W/ EC3

RECAP: EC3 was assigned to run IMPACT for this night only. His first actions with power was assigning Bennett to be the janitor for the night and clean the bathroom. EC3 also informed Maria that she would have a job evaluation by none other than bitter rival Gail Kim.

THOUGHTS: EC3 played this role perfectly. He later assigned Bennett to more tasks. Rather than just appearing once at the beginning of the show, it was refreshing to see the person in charge appear throughout the night.

LASHLEY V. BRAM

RECAP: Galloway assigned Lashley’s opponent for the night. This was a great, physical match between Bram and Lashley. The fight took to the outside of the ring. Unfortunately, the match was cut short as Lashley striked Bram in the ribs with a steel chair. After battering Bram with the steel chair, Lashley speared Bram not once, but twice! Galloway then came to the rescue. Both Galloway and Lashley fled the ring as Galloway was on the pursuit. Eli Drake’s music then hit as he cashed in his King Of The Mountain briefcase! Bram put up a good fight, however Drake picked up the win and is your new KOTM champion!

THOUGHTS: Smart move for Lashley getting himself DQ’ed and not having to compete in a match with Bram. Bram is no easy competitor and it certainly would have weakened Lashley for his title match with Galloway. I think Eli Drake is certainly the future of wrestling. Although, I’m pleased that he is the new champion, he must watch his back. Bram will now be a man on a mission and will not stop until he gets back what is rightfully his, the KOTM title.

THE BROMANS (ROBBIE E & JESSIE GODDERZ) V. TYRUS & ROCKSTAR SPUD (#1 CONTENDERS MATCH FOR THE TAG TITLES) SPECIAL REF: MIKE BENNETT

RECAP: Competitive match, action-packed tag team action. Bennett was slow at making the counts, allowed for shenanigans, and one could just tell he did not want to be there as a referee. The BroMans new guru Raquel assisted them in picking up the win by distracting Tyrus. The BroMans hit the BroGo on Spud for the win. Raquel’s distraction might have worked tonight, but good luck trying that with The Decay’s Rosemary at ringside.

THOUGHTS: Glad that the BroMans are back in the tag team title picture. Plus, I don’t mind seeing Raquel at all. These guys are the perfect faces to go up against a dark, destructive force such as Decay. It’s going to be interesting to see these two teams go at it at Slammiversary.

MARIA’S JOB EVALUATION/GAIL KIM & JADE V. ALLIE & SIENNA

RECAP: If it was not for EC3 being in the ring, Gail Kim and Maria would have ripped each other’s heads off. EC3 announced that Gail Kim will vs. Maria at Slammiversary.  EC3 then made a tag match as Gail Kim and Jade would take on Allie and Sienna. Allie and Sienna put up a fight although Allie was not in ring gear. Jade and Gail Kim picked up the win.

THOUGHTS: The rivalry between Maria and Gail Kim has been building ever since Maria arrived in IMPACT. It will be explosive when this rivalry comes to a head at Slammiversary. Sienna has also been on a roll since debuting in IMPACT. She basically carried her team through this match. My guess is that she will have a Knockout’s title match in the very near future.

MIKE BENNETT V. JAMES STORM

RECAP: Bennett was sick of doing the ‘dirty work’ and claimed that he is a superstar and should be wrestling. After being the janitor, refereeing, EC3 then made Bennett wrestle James Storm. James Storm never goes down without a fight. Maria caused a distraction for Storm as Bennett rolled him up for the win. EC3 then announced that the long awaited match between him and Bennett will happen at Slammiversary. Bennett turned around, and BOOM Last Call Superkick to the jaw of Bennett!

THOUGHTS: Storm certainly seems to be putting over the younger talent nowadays. However, Storm still has a good amount of years left in his career so I wouldn’t count him out, look at Abyss for instance. This EC3/Bennett feud has been nothing short of entertaining. I honestly see it being close to an Austin/Rock type of rivalry. Two charismatic wrestlers that can do it all in the ring. I’m looking forward to seeing them lay it all out at Slammiversary.

AL SNOW INTRODUCES BARON DAX & BASILE BARAKA/GRADO & MAHABALI SHERA INTERRUPT

RECAP: Al Snow introduced the newest tag team, The Tribunal. Baron Dax and Basile Baraka explained to the crowd why they are here. Al Snow said that they are ‘class’ and that this team “does not have to rely on weapons or gimmicks” they are professional athletes. Grado and Shera then interrupted saying that Snow needed help to win that match against Grado last week. Al Snow then said Grado and Shera tampered with the tape and said that he his Grado’s moms favorite wrestler. Grado and Shera rushed to the ring and went at it with The Tribunal. Snow took a chair to the back of Grado and Shera following by a beat down by The Tribunal.

THOUGHTS: Grado and Shera still have a lot to learn…. A LOT. But I don’t want to go into it, I like to respect every performer and what they do out there. I must say Al Snow has been one of my favorites since returning to weekly television. He has not lost a step. If anything, he has improved greatly over the years. I also really enjoy this new tag team The Tribunal. I could see them being the future of the IMPACT tag division.

GALLOWAY V. THE DECAY (ABYSS, CRAZZY STEVE, & ROSEMARY)

RECAP: The Decay are never an easy feat, but on this night Galloway pulled out all the stops. Decay beat down Galloway all over the ring and in the ring. They could have had the match won until Lashley interrupted and attempted to spear Galloway, but accidentally speared Abyss. Galloway picked up the win.
THOUGHTS: Exciting match especially since Galloway did not know his opponent’s going into this match. The Decay is a perfect mix of all wrestling elements. The match was extremely competitive especially since the world champion Galloway had to over come the odds. I believe The Decay could have won the match if it wasn’t for Lashley getting involved. Abyss is looking great in the ring and with this new gimmick, it seems like he has rejuvenated his career. The BroMans will face The Decay for the tag titles at Slammiversary. Galloway and Lashley stared each other down as this unfolded. Every week seems like an MMA fight between these two. At Slammiversary, it will be a fight as Lashley and Galloway will fight in a ‘knockout or tap out match’.

MATT HARDY & JEFF HARDY SLAMMIVERSARY CONTRACT SIGNING

RECAP: Matt Hardy has been on a hectic rage over the past month. First, turning into Willow and attacking his brother. Now challenging his brother to Full Metal Mayhem at Slammiversary. Throughout the night, we followed Matt and Jeff through this contract signing journey. Finally, the signing happened where it all started. In the wrestling ring in Matt’s backyard. Jeff said ‘if you want to end it, let’s do it now’. When Jeff was getting in the ring, Reby yelled to him, when he turned his back, Matt smashed glass over the back of his head. Matt then picked Jeff up and slammed him through a hard wood table.

THOUGHTS: I was looking forward to this all night and I certainly was not disappointed. This was incredible. Matt Hardy has proven that he has the ability to do it all time and time again. Sure, the Hardy brothers feud has been done, my question is, has it been executed this perfectly before?!! This is amazing television and with these two feuding it has been nothing but incredible. Imagine what will happen in a Full Metal Mayhem match where anything goes!
